terry richardson is now my favorite photographer. annie leibovitz is number 2. I think it’s well known that lots of photographers take themselves way too seriously. terry richarson is the total opposite of that. He talks about snapshots, which his whole aesthetic is based on. He said people would laugh when he showed up to a magazine shoot with just one snapshot camera, but the idea is to capture an energy or emotion that people respond to. Perfect lighting is good, it looks pretty, but if the viewer feels disconnected from the image, it’s not that successful.

Finally went properly swimming this afternoon, it was verrrry nice and now I’m hesitant to change out of my swimsuit and put on real clothes. I also have really funny tan lines on my feet from my salt water sandals, and a relentlessly stuffy nose.

On Friday I signed the rental agreement for a minute little studio out in Thurston. It is perfectly sized for me and even has a miniature fridge. I am so excited. Last night I biked to Target and walked up and down every aisle, taking note of things I want in my apartment. I feel like I’ve worked so hard for this, and it all seems a bit imaginary. Like I can’t actually be preparing to live all by myself, but I am!

There is a pile of tissues growing next to me, I should probably go shower off the river. I smell like sunscreen, warm and summery. I think I’m pretty happy right now.
